Team Introduction

Ron Hughes, Managing Director and Private Wealth Advisor, has over 23 years of financial advisory experience. He has been featured as a lecturer on investment theory and practice as part of the firm’s continuing education and training of financial advisors. Ron has been featured as a speaker at Barron’s conferences for the top financial advisors in the industry, and has addressed the annual meeting of the investment Management Consultants Association. Ron Hughes joined Merrill Lynch in February of 2000 and prior to building the first fully accredited Private Banking and Investment Group team in the Southeast Region he spent seven years at Goldman Sachs advising entrepreneurs experiencing significant liquidity events. Ron holds two degrees in Finance graduating Magna Cum Laude from Auburn University and earning an MBA with Distinction from Emory University.

In April 2006 and April 2007 Ron was named by Barron’s as one of the nation’s “Top 100 Financial Advisors”. Additionally in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Ron was ranked among the top 10 financial advisors in Georgia in Barron’s “State-by-State Top Financial Advisors.”

In the September 2007 issue of Registered Representative, an industry publication, Ron was included among “The Top 100 Advisors in America” as well.

In March 2016 Ron was named to the "FT 400" by the Financial Times as one of the Top Financial Advisors in America.

Ron was recently included in the Forbes inaugural ranking of Top 100 Wealth Advisors in the United States in August of 2016.

Team Approach

Typically our mandate for the families we serve is to integrate institutional asset management with alternative investments in the context of the optimal trust and estate structure for achieving the family’s financial and non-financial goals. Our investment philosophy emphasizes diversification, high quality and a long term orientation. We take a holistic approach to advising families with regard to both the asset and liability sides of their balance sheets. We not only provide strategic financial advice, but we also consult with families and serve as advisors to help educate younger generations about the importance of sound financial stewardship. In the past we have successfully delivered Bank of America and Merrill Lynch’s broad product and service platform through presenting creative lending solutions from home financing to private business funding to levered recapitalizations.

Before recommending an investment program we conduct a thorough analysis of the clients’ current estate planning and asset allocation. We look to fulfill the client’s estate goals and philanthropic endeavors coordinating Merrill Lynch wealth structuring resources with the client's own tax and legal advisors. For clients whose private and business assets are inter-linked we provide access to middle market investment bankers, employee benefits consulting, succession planning and other business financial services.
