Akiko’s rich background in private banking informs her knowledge and perspective in building inter-generational strategies that address the requirements of affluent families.

Akiko believes that superior wealth management extends beyond investment management. “It demands an ongoing strategic focus to help optimize distinct aspects of a client’s wealth,” she explains. “Formulating a thoughtful wealth planning strategy is critical to positive and lasting outcomes. Wise financial decisions have implications for years. While different and unique to each family, clients share a profound need for having their assets and financial lives well managed,” Akiko says. “I coordinate on a regular basis with their trust and estate attorneys, accountants and with clients’ other trusted advisors.

Working on behalf of a loyal clientele, Akiko assists successful entrepreneurs, corporate executives, businesspeople and professional athletes. Her mission is to help clients manage and preserve their wealth – from years of wealth creation to a time spent enjoying retirement, creating a family legacy, or supporting a favorite cause.

Akiko’s investment philosophy is to create exceptional long-term, risk-adjusted returns by offering a broad range of investment strategies. “Understanding a client’s goals, passions, time horizon, liquidity needs, and risk tolerance is critical to portfolio construction. That’s why I discuss these parameters with clients prior to building their customized portfolios. For some, their portfolio may include alternative investments*, along with traditional asset classes. Hedge funds and private equity are increasingly important in managing clients’ portfolio risk,” Akiko adds.

Given her banking background, Akiko proactively offers access to residential, securities-based and structured lending, as well as commercial lending (to help a business owner expand, for example). She also makes insurance recommendations, in addition to working closely with the firm’s trust and fiduciary specialists to craft clients’ estate planning strategies.

Akiko was raised in Tokyo and graduated from Tsuda College with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations. Professionally, she “grew up” in an environment that catered to affluent individuals. After nine years at Citi Private Bank, she spent nine years managing the JPMorgan Private Bank Asia team in New York as executive director. In 2014, Akiko joined Merrill Lynch. Among her passions are family time, Asian food, travel, the performing arts, and improving her golf game. Akiko resides on Long Island with her husband and two daughters.
